Longchamp Le Pliage – Is it worth it?

I have to admit, although I had seen some rave reviews about the Longchamp Le Pliage I did wonder if it was a little expensive for a nylon bag with leather handles. I’ve been trying to consider my purchases more, thinking about how often I’ll use it, what else in my wardrobe it’ll go with and if it’ll last. What attracted me to the bag was I thought it’d be perfect for day trips meaning I could take my camera, water bottle etc., for when I’m out with Evie so I can carry nappies, changes of clothes and for when I eventually head back to work as it’s roomy enough for a laptop and to pop a lunch box in.

Now that I’ve had the bag for four months, I thought I’d share my thoughts on whether I think it was worth it.

About the bag

The bag was originally designed in 1993, using nylon to create a sturdy yet lightweight bag. Since it first launched it has gained a cult status and now comes in a range of sizes and fabrics. It can also be folded up into a small rectangle making it easy to store when you’re not using it.

I chose the large size with shoulder straps but the Le Pliage also comes in different sizes as well as with top handles and crossbody straps.

How it wears

Being petite I was a little worried that the large size might look huge when I carried it but I feel it looks fine. It has quite a casual style which I feel is great for weekend trips when you have to carry a lot but I feel that the darker colours would also be really practical for work or school.

One of the reasons that I chose this bag was the fact that it’s hard wearing. I’ve seen people posting that their Le Pliage was six/seven years old and it still looked in good condition. Obviously condition is linked to how much you care for your bag as well. I’ve been looking after mine but not babying it, there’s been times it’s had to sit on the floor or get shoved in the basket under the pram. So far there’s not been any marks or damage to it.

What I love

I love the amount of space this bag has and how much it can fit in it – it reminds me a little of Mary Poppins bag! I currently have a bag organiser in my Le Pliage as it helps to give it a more structured shape and keep everything inside separated so I can easily find it. When we went up to Inverness in the autumn this was the only bag that I took with me and it was perfect for when we were out and about.

Since it’s made of nylon it’s incredibly easy to clean, you just have to give it a wipe with a cloth. My poor bag has had dog drool and baby sick on it but a quick wipe leaves it looking great again.

What could be better

One of the downsides of this bag is that I find that when it isn’t full it looks really slouchy (another reason that I added a bag organiser). If you like a slouchy look to your bag then you probably won’t mind.

If you’re thinking about buying a Longchamp Le Pliage then I totally recommend it, it’s one of my best purchases and has quickly become one of my used bags.
