My Travel Essentials

One of my goals for this year was to try and travel more and right now I’m currently on my way to Valencia! I’m currently planning another trip for during the summer so I feel like I’m doing quite well so far. I share a few of the things I can’t travel without…

Books

I love books, which you’ll probably know if you’ve read my Literature Lovers Guide to Edinburgh Post. When I’m travelling I like to take my Kindle as it takes up less space than what a few books would. Since I’m learning Spanish, I might be tempted to pick up a few books in Valencia.

Phone

I think everyone’s life is on their phone now, right? I’d be lost without my phone when I go travelling as I use it for my boarding pass, Google maps, booking tickets for trips while I’m away – and that’s just a few of the things I need it for. The camera on my phone is quite good making it perfect for taking a quick snap or two when I don’t want to use my actual camera. I’ve also recently bought a mini tripod for my phone so I’m looking forward to trying that out while I’m in Spain.

Portable charger

This was a life saver when our flight was delayed in Berlin. We’d been out of the hotel for most of the day and by the time got to the airport both our battery levels were pretty low. I wasn’t sure how much use it would actually get when I bought it but now if I’m travelling anywhere or even just going out for the day I make sure I’ve got it with me as when you’re snapping pics for Instagram your battery tends to go down pretty quickly!

Monzo Card

This is a new edition to my travel essentials. I recently got a Monzo card as I felt it would be great for travelling – there’s no card fees for using it abroad and you can withdraw £200 overseas per month free of charge, after which you’ll get charged 3%. I’m planning on doing a post about Monzo soon, so keep an eye out!

Camera

Definitely a must to capture some amazing memories! I also use my phone when taking pictures but I find that nothing is better than an actual camera.

A bag

And obviously it’d be pretty difficult to carry it all without a bag! I decided that I would jump on the backpack trend that seems to be so popular at the moment. I’ll be honest – I’m not usually one for backpacks I think the last one I had was a furry zebra on when I was kid. I picked up the Seventeen London one on Amazon. It’s the perfect size to fit everything in but is lightweight and is the correct size for carry on baggage.
