Every wardrobe should have a few key pieces, especially ones that can be used to transition throughout the year. I’m sharing the five key pieces that I couldn’t be without in my wardrobe.

A brilliant blazer
If you’ve been reading my blog or following my Instagram then you’ll know that I’m a big fan of blazers. I’ve got quite a few in my wardrobe at the moment, with most being black or navy but I also have a couple of green ones to add some colour. I find that throwing on a blazer is a really easy way to give a casual look a slight dress feel, you can see how I styled an oversized blazer in this post. I love wearing them for more dressed up looks too, you can see how I styled one with white jeans in my Three ways to wear white jeans post.
A classic trench coat
Trench coats are a great transitional piece, as they work well for spring to summer and then from late summer to autumn when the weather starts to get a little cooler. I have a few different colours of trench coats in my wardrobe, two from Jack Wills and one from Marks and Spencer. I always have a beige one in my wardrobe as it just works so well with everything. If I want to add a pop of colour to my look then I usually go for my bright blue one.

A good handbag
I’m a big fan of bags and I’m happy to spend a little more on styles that are going to last and see me through different seasons as well. My go to bag is my Cambridge Satchel Company batchel in French Grey, as it works really will with a range of different colours. I have the 11 inch version which I find is big enough for popping in all my essentials. You can see how much you can fit in this size in my What’s in my Cambridge Satchel post. My other most used bag is my Radley one which I bought a few years ago now. I can’t remember the style but it’s a bit larger and can easily fit in my laptop and any other work bits that I might need.
A staple shirt
Shirts are such a versatile piece as you can wear them by themselves or use them as a layering piece. My wardrobe always has at least one white shirt. I tend to buy ones that are really light as it means that I can wear them by themselves or layer them up with a jumper or blazer. I recommend taking sometime to find a shirt that works for you, whether it’s short sleeved, sleeveless (these are usually my go to), long sleeved, relaxed or fitted. As well as white shirts I tend to have a variety of printed ones, including bees (which you can see on my Instagram), cherries, stripes and hearts. I tend to wear jumpers a lot through winter and love having a little printed collar peeking out of the top of my jumper.
A go to dress
When I’m looking for a versatile dress that’s going to take me through different seasons I usually go for a printed one (surprise, surprise!). I find that floral prints and dots are the easiest to make work for different seasons. I like to choose bright florals on a dark background as I find this tends to work easily with bare legs or tights. I usually go for dresses that are a little above the knee so it can easily be worn casually or dress up with heels.
Thanks Lisa!
