Reflecting on 2019 and New Goals for 2020

I can’t believe that it’s 2020 already – I feel like last year flew by. Not only is it a new year, it’s a new decade too! I love taking the time at the start of the year to reflect on the previous year’s goals and make plans for the coming year. You can read last years post here.

One of my goals for last year was to read more which I definitely did. I decided to aim to read 40 books – which was a little ambitious and sadly I was a little short of this managing to read 26 books before the end of the year. I’m going to try again this year and see if I can get a little closer to my 40 book target. If you fancy setting yourself a reading challenge then I’d recommend using Goodreads as it makes keeping track of the books you’ve read super easy by simply scanning the cover. I’ve also came across the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge which I might try to incorporate into my 40 books reading challenge too.

Trying to travel more was one of my other goals and I did manage to visit a few different places; Berlin, Valencia (twice) and up to Inverness for the first time. Berlin is an incredibly beautiful city – you can read more about what I got up to in my Berlin Travel Guide post. On my first visit to Valencia, not only was it my first time abroad myself, it was also my first time staying in a hostel – and I absolutely loved my experience. I’ve not yet written about my time in the city but there is so much to see and do and plenty of great places to eat. In October we headed up to Inverness for a night before heading to Pitlochry for the Enchanted Forest – which was amazing and if you have the chance to get tickets then I’d really recommend going.

Goals for 2020

Learn to code

This is one of my big goals for this year – I’m not expecting to be an amazing coder by the end of the year but I do hope to know some more HTML and CSS so that I can make tweaks to websites and my blog without having to ask for help. I’m currently using Free Code Camp to learn but if you know of any other platforms that are useful for learning then please let me know!

Freelance

This is something I’ve said a few times but this is the year that I’m determined to make it happen. I’m hoping to use my experience in journalism and communications to help others to help others with copywriting, content creation and social media.

Blog consistently

I’m planning to ensure that I blog more consistently this year and to not let other things get in the way. I’ve also created a new monthly blog newsletter where I’ll share blog posts, things I’m loving e.g. books, other bloggers, interesting articles etc. You can sign up to my new mailing below and the first issue will be out at the end of January.

Do you find creating goals helps keep you on track? What do you hope to achieve this year?
